If you prefer to listen to this interview, check out the podcast version

People! This interview was SO. MUCH. FUN. I got to sit down with Bethany C. Meyers, to talk about their journey from fitness instructor struggling with their body image and disordered eating to CEO and founder of the be.come project, a modern fitness app focused on inclusivity and joyful movement.

We got into so many compelling topics, including:

  • What body neutrality is and how it can help you get peace with your body

  • How terrifying it can be to throw out your scale

  • Ways to stop looking at exercise as punishment and instead use it as a way to heal and a source of pleasure

  • How and why the wellness industry needs to consider the experience of BIPOC and other underrepresented communities

  • The relationship between gender identity, body dysmorphia and body image

  • The fact that we’re all on a journey and even the “experts” are still growing and learning and don’t have it all figured out

“Because of society and the way we're taught to think about the body, we've placed so much importance on what it looks like and we've lost the importance of who we really are underneath the body. And I think there's something so powerful in the understanding that our bodies are simply this shell, this container, this vessel we exist in that takes us through life. How incredible that we have this body that takes us through life. It deserves respect.”

This interview was truly a joy. Bethany shared their story with so much generosity, candor and vulnerability. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. And as always, I’d love to hear your feedback. Drop us a comment below or send us a DM over on Instagram.
