Fresh Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day
How are you feeling about this whole Valentine’s Day business?
If you’re in love with love and go all out for V-day, then by all means--celebrate big! Pull out all the stops. These days we need every moment of celebration we can get.
If you’re like me and more lukewarm on all the Valentine's hype, I’m sending out a little reminder that you have total permission to opt out. It’s your day. You don’t have to eat one single chocolate heart or gaze upon a single red rose if you’re not feeling it
And here’s another reminder for anyone who needs it: there are many ways to celebrate love. Call the people that you love most and tell them. Do a Valentine’s Day craft project with your kids. Spend some extra time cuddling your pets. FaceTime your best friend and feel how grateful you are to have them in your life.
And of course, don’t forget to show yourself love! This form of love can be the hardest to lean into, and devoting part (or all) of the day to self-love rituals might feel kind of awkward at first. So here are a few ideas to get you started:
Luxuriate in bed with a big fluffy latte. Wear your softest PJs or put on your sexiest lingerie. Whatever makes you feel good. Do it for you.
Do a mini photo shoot with your phone if you’re feeling inspired. Don’t share it with anyone. Save it to look at when you need to remember how sexy you are, inside and out.
Buy yourself a giant (GIANT) bouquet of your favorite flowers. Yes, it’s luxurious. Yes, you are absolutely worthy of pleasure for pleasure’s sake.
Wear your favorite perfume.
Spend some time stretching or doing yoga and reconnect with your body.
Put on some sexy music and spend time touching your beautiful body. Without rushing and with no need to please anyone but yourself.
Write yourself a love letter.
Eat chocolate (but please not the nasty ones in a heart-shaped box from the drugstore). Splurge on your favorite chocolate bar and savor Every. Single. Bite.
Take the world’s bubbliest bath. Better still, open a bottle of champagne and drink bubbles in the bath.
Call your galentines and spend hours on the phone laughing and catching up.
Order dinner from your favorite restaurant. Pull out a tablecloth, light candles and sit down to really savor your meal.
Alternatively, eat dinner on the couch while binging that new show on Netflix. (Remember that part about it being your day? Yeah, we meant it.)
Watch your favorite movie of all time. Laugh. Cry. Get angry at the bad guys and throw things at your TV. Remember why you love it so much.
Snuggle up in bed and get lost in a really good book. Let yourself be transported.
Write a mini love note to yourself. Put it on your bathroom mirror to remind you that you don’t need Valentine’s Day to show yourself love.
Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day filled with lots of love whatever you decide to do! 💋💋
