Ditching Diet Culture with Caroline Dooner

Hello Beautiful Humans!
This week I’m sharing another interview from my Radical Self-Acceptance as Activism series I hosted in collaboration with the Seattle Public Library!
In this episode, I’m speaking with Caroline Dooner, humorist, storyteller and author of The F*ck It Diet and Tired as F*ck. She spent years as a performer, and dieted like it was her job (because it kind of was). After healing her relationship to food, she's been sharing what she learned ever since. She excels at explaining *why* we have such a dysfunctional relationship with food and weight through a combination of storytelling, scientific studies, and humor.
In this talk we explore:
Caroline’s journey from food obsession and extreme dieting to physical and mental health
How we’re metabolically wired to fail at dieting
What really causes food “addiction” and how to feel less addicted
Why your ability to “successfully” diet and maintain weight loss is not your fault
How the diet industry drives health policy at the institutional level (and why that’s extremely messed up)
Why weight is not an indicator of health
How many of us use dieting to distract ourselves from our feelings and how to stop and start reconnecting to yourself
Why rest is so important for healing your relationship with your body
What you get back and how your life expands when you stop dieting
And a little reminder—If you are enjoying the podcast, please drop us a review over on Apple Podcasts, subscribe and share on social media (or with a friend)! It goes so far in helping us spread our message to like-minded folks.
Thank you and XO!❤️
